Halfords wheels out mobile site

Car accessories and cycling retailer Halfords has launched its first transactional mobile site building on the success of its dotmobile venture, launched in August.

Customers are now able to pay for orders directly from their mobile phone.

Chris Corbin, head of multichannel at Halfords, says: “More and more of our customers are accessing our site via mobile and we want them to have the same experience as they have from a computer. Smartphones point to how trends in shopping habits are changing fast.”

Since launching its original dotmobile site, the retailer had seen an 8 per cent increase in total visitor numbers to Halfords.com, with a doubling in conversion levels. The mobile site now supports the same search and ordering facilities as the main e-commerce proposition.

Customers can also use Order and Collect or Reserve and Collect with free delivery to stores or paid delivery to work and home addresses. Payment methods include PayPal, making Halfords the first mass retailer in the UK to offer this as a mobile payment method.
