The appointment reunites McCarthy (pictured) with Publicis UK Group chairman and CEO Nigel Jones. The two worked together at FCB London as CEO and managing director and helped steer the agency through its merger with sister Interpublic agency Draft.
McCarthy left Draft FCB in October last year to join Agency.com as president. He now takes full responsibility for Publicis Modem and will work with creative director Pablo Marques at the digital agency.
Modem has recorded double digit growth in the past 12 months with business wins such as Karen Millen, Curry’s and easy Jet.
Former Modem CEO Sebastian Dreyfus will move to a new role within the Publicis network.
Meanwhile, former group marketing director at Gala Coral Group Kate Howe has been appointed the new president of Draftfcb London, taking up the positionvacant since McCarthy’s departure. She was most recently managing director of integrated agency Nitro.
