Tesco bolsters UK comms team

Tesco has appointed London 2012 media advisor Tom Curry into the newly created role of UK communications director, as part of an expansion of the Tesco UK team.

The supermarket has also appointed Victoria Gould, one of Tony Blair’s former communications advisors, as government affairs manager.

Curry, who is head of media for the Olympic Delivery Authority, and Gould will join Tesco in September and report to corporate affairs director David North, who is Blair’s former Downing Street private secretary.

A Tesco spokeswoman says the heavyweight additions “bring the team up to capacity” following the reorganisation of the business when Sir Terry Leahy stepped down.

Richard Brasher took on the new UK CEO role in March when Tesco created a dedicated UK board for the first time.
