ITV Player available on Virgin Media

Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be available on demand on Virgin Media after the broadcaster signed a four year deal with ITV. ITV Player will be available to Virgin Media’s 3.5 million cable TV customers.

The service joins the BBC on-demand service, BBC iPlayer, on the cable platform and follows a similar deal with BT Vision, the telecoms company’s TV offering.

Over 40 hours of programming from ITV1, 2, 3 and 4 will be available each week, with content made available for seven days after being broadcast. Virgin Media viewers will also be able to choose from 500 hours of archive content, including comedies, documentaries and dramas available to view at any time.

A selection of ITV’s high definition (HD) programming will also be available on demand. Previously, ITV’s HD content was available only on Freesat, the free-to-air satellite service funded by ITV and the BBC.

In addition, Virgin Media and ITV have also agreed that Virgin Media TV subscribers will be able to watch ITV content online via their computers.
