Walkers trials six new flavours

Walkers Crisps is trialling a raft of unusual new flavours including Cajun Squirrel and chilli and chocolate following a public competition to find an inspired new flavour. The new variants will launch today (January 9).

The six new flavours, which also include onion bhaji, fish and chips, crispy duck and hoi sin and builder’s breakfast, will be available until May. Walkers is asking the public to vote for their favourite, which will then be launched as a permanent product.

PepsiCo-owned Walkers launched the Do Us A Flavour competition last July. It invited the public the chance to win £50,000 and 1% of all future sales of the range (MW.co.uk, July 11). All the finalists receive £10,000.

Heston Blumenthal (pictured), the founder of the three Michelin-starred The Fat Duck restaurant, led the judging panel. He says: “The complexities of flavour fascinate me and to watch the British public get so excited about taste has been absolutely inspiring.”

The crisps will be available as single packets or in a special multipack containing all six until May. The public has until May 1 to vote.
