Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps has been dropped as the face of Kellogg’s in the west following allegations in the News of the World about his drug use, it has been reported.

The US swimmer, who picked up eight gold medals at the Beijing games, has been signed by a flurry of brands in the last year.

Kellogg’s confirmed it would not renew its contract with the Phelps in February following images that appeared to show him using drugs in the UK Sunday tabloid.

Other brands he is associated with including Omega and Speedo have publicly supported the athlete following the revelations, although fast food outlet Subway and US telecoms giant AT&T have remained silent on the matter.

The US sportsman has already appeared in a number of ads in the west, including the Subway sandwich chain, Visa and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, and he was signed to promote the Mazda 6 at the beginning of the year.
