Look makes strong showing in ABCs

ABCs: Condé Nast’s Glamour is again the leading title in the glossy women’s magazines sector but IPC’s weekly Look performed strongly with a rise of 2.9 per cent year-on-year, according to latest ABC figures.

Monthly title Glamour posted a 0.4% net circulation fall for the last six months, compared to a 1.2% rise in the last ABCs. Runner-up National Magazine Company’s Cosmopolitan also saw a small dip of 2.1%.

Look’s recent strategy of offering young fashion-conscious women tips on staying chic on a budget seems to have paid off, as the weekly recorded the largest year-on-year circulation rise in its sector. Stablemate Essentials also added circulation, which rose by 4.6% year-on-year.

Grazia, Bauer Media’s weekly rival to Look, held-off a circulation dip, with its numbers remaining static.

Condé Nast’s monthly Vogue also held its circulation at the same level as last year, while Hachette Fillipachi’s Red boosted its numbers by 0.5%.

The biggest year-on-year loser was Bauer’s weekly More! which saw sales dip by 9.4%, although it recorded an 11.5% jump compared to the first six months of 2008 following a relaunch in September.
