Bauer unveils new Pop team

Bauer Media has appointed former Wallpaper ad manager Tom Bailey as associate publisher of fashion magazine Pop ahead of its relaunch in September.

It has also appointed Russian contemporary art figure Dasha Zhukova as editor in chief, who will work alongside the title’s co-founder and style magazine veteran Ashley Heath.

Heath launched the title at Emap with stylist Katie Grand, with whom he had worked at former style title The Face. Grand defected to Conde Nast with much of the Pop editorial team not long after the Emap consumer titles were bought by Bauer Media to create fashion title Love, which launched last week.

A Pop website is currently being tested and is due to launch in April. Bauer Media women’s magazines managing director David Davies, who was part of the launch team for Pop, says the brand will become more ‘multi-media’ with the website and its partnership with the Saatchi Gallery to create an physical brand extension giving “more people an opportunity to get involved with Pop.”

A new editorial team has been recruited, and an editorial board comprising art and fashion luminaries including artist and film director Sam Taylor-Wood and fashion icon Daphne Guiness, has been established.

Davies adds the time has come to “make the title grow-up” with “more substantial” content featuring more comment and analysis in addition to the title’s established fashion content.

“There tends to be a cultural upswing in recession, which Pop will be ideally placed to cover,” he says.
