Chime sees growth in sports and direct marketing

Chime Communications, owner of Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest and Bell Pottinger, has reported its operating profits rose 10% on an organic basis in 2008.

The marketing services group reports this morning that its advertising, marketing services and research divisions were behind budget, but still managed to deliver an 11% overall operating profit rise due to its sports and direct marketing, digital, search and brand identity businesses doing better year on year.

It also reported its public relations division, The Bell Pottinger Group, had an “extremely good year”, delivering a 30% operating profits jump.

The Lord Bell (pictured) fronted company says its strategy for 2009 is to “control costs” and focus on new business and growth opportunities particularly in “international, sports marketing, digital, geopolitical and public sector work.”

It highlighted its work on the Food Standards Agency campaign against saturated fat, the Emirates Sponsorship of the Rugby Sevens World Cup and VCCP’s ad campaign for, as some of its best achievements of the year.
