Motorola closes movie download store
Motorola has shut down the movie store it launched with Paramount just six months after its launch.
The service, which allowed people to buy and sideload full length films from the studio to their mobile phones (nma 24 April 2008), was closed down at the start of the year.
A source close to the store said a lack of marketing was one reason for the store’s failure.
A spokeswoman for Motorola confirmed the closure of the store, which was developed with platform provider Saffron Digital.
Motorola senior director Andrew Till and regional manager Steven Trew, who were both responsible for the launch of the store, left the troubled handset manufacturer in January.
Motorola announced 3,000 job cuts in October with a further 4,000 roles axed in January as part of a restructure of the business following flagging handset sales.
