Tourism Australia appoints UK marketing manager

Tourism Australia has appointed Alasdair Farrimond as marketing manager for the UK, Ireland and Nordic.

He replaces Tim Jones, who has moved to Sydney to take the position of marketing manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Farrimond joins from travel2 where he held the position of marketing director. He has also held marketing positions at Walt Disney.

This year Tourism Australia has focused its campaigns on the Baz Luhrmann film Australia. The tourist board launched a campaign under the banner “Come Walkabout” created by DDB and Luhrmann’s own production house Bazmark.

DDB London won the Tourism Australia business after a pitch earlier this year. The network replaced M&C Saatchi, which developed the controversial “So where the bloody hell are you?” campaign. The Australian National Audit Office has been critical of the process that led to the appointment of M&C Saatchi in 2005.
