History Channel UK appoints commercial director

The History Channel UK has appointed Christina Foley as commercial director, replacing Ian McDonough, who left the company in December last year.

Foley (pictured), who joins from Sparrowhawk International Channels, will report directly to Tom Davidson, managing director of The History Channel – a joint venture between A&E Television Networks and BSkyB.

In her new role she will oversee the expansion of the brand through Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Plans include the roll-out of more channels and new platforms. At present The History Channel UK operates a number of factual channels in the UK and Ireland, including History, The Biography Channel, Crime & Investigation Network and Military History.

Foley has worked in the European cable TV industry for 17 years and held the position of commercial director at Sparrowhawk International, where she oversaw The Hallmark Channel. She has also worked at BBC Worldwide where she held a variety of roles including head of sales and distribution.

McDonough left the History Channel last year to join BBC Worldwide as vice-president for commercial development, EMEA. As commercial director McDonough led the launch of The History Channel and The History Channel HD.
