Freesat launches first TV campaign

Free-to-air satellite TV service Freesat launches its first TV advertising campaign this week.

The executions will first be shown on ITV1 during coverage of the England football team’s World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine tomorrow (April 1). The campaign will run throughout the Easter period and focuses on Freesat’s “brilliant entertainment for everyone” offering.

The campaign, produced by Farm, features two ads in which a character is shown in their living room watching Freesat. Shot in a time-lapse style using super fast HD stills cameras, the ads capture the day to day changes in the characters’ lives. The shoot involved more than 18,000 stills, with the final ads containing 320 shots each. Media planning and buying for the campaign was handled by MPG

Owen Lee, Farm’s creative director says: “You can’t show HD on ordinary TV but you can show what it feels like to watch it.”

Freesat, a not-for-profit joint venture between the BBC and ITV, offers more than 140 TV, radio and interactive channels, including HD, from the two channels, and has 300,000 subscribers.
