Bauer appoints Gort as Big City marketing head

Bauer Media has appointed Catherine Gort to the newly created role of head of marketing and communications for its Big City nationwide radio station network.

Gort will have responsibility for developing an integrated marketing and communications strategy for the 21-strong network, which includes Key 103 in the North West and Hallam FM in South Yorkshire and will report to Bauer Media’s chief marketing officer Andria Vidler.

She joins from domestic and personal care appliance maker Salton Europe where she held the position of marketing director responsible for the marketing strategy of brands including Russell Hobbs and George Foreman branded products. She has also held senior marketing roles at Levi Strauss and Durex.

Gort’s appointment comes four months after Bauer’s radio group managing director Dee Ford took on responsibility for operation and direction for the entire Big City network. Ford took over from Travis Baxter who became managing director of strategy, regulation and business development.

Last April, Bauer kick-started a £1m marketing investment in the network as part of a £10m outlay in its radio brands which included the relaunch of digital-only station Q Radio and a £1m push for KISS 100.

Meanwhile, Bauer Media has appointed Graham Bryce as managing director of Radio in Scotland. He will take up this newly-created role on June 8 and will report directly to Ford.
