BSkyB creates sports marketing role

In a second appointment, Corin Dimopoulos, whose current role spans both Sky Sports and Sky News, has been promoted into a brand new role, director of cycling, created solely to direct and support Skys ongoing commitment to British Cycling.

BSkyB has created the new position of director, sports & marketing and appointed David Murdin.

Murdin reports to Andy Brent, Sky’s group director of brand marketing and will oversee the development and implementation of brand strategy for Sky Sports and Sky News.

He joins Sky from British Airways where he was Global Head of Brand, Product and Service. Prior to British Airways, David worked in a number of senior marketing roles, including as Customer Strategy Director at RBS, and as Head of Proposition & Customer Experience at Egg.

In a second appointment, Corin Dimopoulos, whose current role spans both Sky Sports and Sky News, has been promoted into a brand new role, director of cycling, created solely to direct and support Sky’s ongoing commitment to British Cycling.

Sky is the first ever principle partner for British Cycling and sponsors the sport from the British Cycling teams right through to grassroots cycling. Sky has also announced the creation of a professional British road cycling team, Team Sky, managed by Great Britain Olympic performance director Dave Brailsford CBE. Team Sky will compete from the start of 2010 with the objective of becoming the first British winner of the Tour de France.

BSkyB has just filed first quarter results showing an uptake in subscribers and revenues.

Brent says: “Sky’s on-going success is supported by the investments we make in our brand. We have more customer relationships than ever, and are reaching and engaging those customers in a range of ways, both on-screen and off.

“David will build upon the great work already undertaken in developing the Sky Sports and Sky News brands, two of the most innovative and respected content brands around. And Corin steps into an exciting new opportunity help inspire families to get out and ride for fun and fitness and to help customers share our passion for cycling.”
