ICO grants data transfer under binding rules

Accenture and Atmel have been authorised by the Information Commissioner’s Office to transfer personal information from the UK to other companies within their own groups who are based outside of the European Economic Area. The transfers will take place under binding corporate rules which the ICO is satisfied will protect individuals.

Deputy Information Commissioner, David Smith, says: “Accenture and Atmel should be commended for their commitment to the concept of binding corporate rules and their respect for the privacy of individuals. The ICO welcomes approaches from multi-national organisations that need to share personal information within their own group, but outside Europe and who want to use binding corporate rules to do that.”
