Wall Street Journal to charge per article
US newspaper The Wall Street Journal is to introduce micropayment charges for the reading of individual articles.
The title, published by News Corp, owner of UK newspapers including The Sun and The Times, is to roll out the charging method this autumn alongside its subscription model.
The WSJ is keen to bolster its existing subscription fee with a more flexible model aimed at generating revenue from occasional readers who don’t want to pay for an annual subscription.
Robert Thomson, managing editor of the WSJ, said the newspaper wanted to charge a premium for its specialist articles.
