A coalition including the Federation Against Copyright Theft and the Publishers’ Association has become the latest group to demand tighter regulation against online piracy ahead of next month’s Digital Britain report.

At today’s Future of the Creative Economy conference in London, the coalition, which also includes the BPI, Equity and entertainment union leaders, will call for plans that would release media owners from taking action against offenders readdressed.

Instead, the group wants ISPs to take more responsibility by identifying repeat offenders and disconnecting them.

However, their calls have already been rebuked by Carphone Warehouse CEO Charles Dunstone, which operates the TalkTalk broadband service. He told the BBC such a role shouldn’t be within the remit of ISPs.

Yesterday it was revealed a consortium made up of CEOs from major UK media players, including BSkyB and Channel 4, are lobbying Lord Stephen Carter and the Digital Britain Report Steering Board to tighten up internet piracy laws.
