Standard Life CEO to join RBS

Sir Sandy Crombie, the chief executive of Standard Life is to join the Royal Bank of Scotland as an independent director.

Sir Sandy will take up the directorship in June and will liaise between the troubled bank and its major shareholders, who include the Government with a 70% stake, as it continues a major review of its business.

Standard Life announced in March that Sir Sandy was to leave this year but set no time-frame to appoint a successor.

The insurer has recently completed a major overhaul of its UK marketing team.

The restructure involved the separation of marketing and product development and is to lead to the creation and abolition of a number of roles. It has also created a number of global “centres of excellence” in areas including brand, customer insight and digital.

The firm has been making a number of senior marketing appointments in preparation for the restructure including Kevin O’Shaughnessy to the new role of group director of digital marketing last month and Jo Coomber as head of marketing operations for its UK financial services business in March.
