Fujitsu appoints marketing director of government arm

Former Thomas Cook marketing director takes government role at IT giant. By Branwell Johnson

Fujitsu has recruited former Post Office and Thomas Cook marketer Simon Carter to take up the position of marketing director for its UK government division.

The UK arm of the global IT company, which has its headquarters in Japan, derives more than half of its £2bn revenue from government contracts, which include work for the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence and HM Revenue & Customs.

Carter joined Thomas Cook as marketing director in 2006 and rose to executive director of marketing until his departure following a restructure at the end of last year.

He is a former marketing and direct sales director at Post Office and marketing and customer care director at EDF Energy.

Carter will report to managing director of Fujitsu’s government division Eithne Wallis and will work with marketing director UK & Ireland Vince Kerr. Carter is taking up Kerr’s previous role.

Previous marketing director UK & Ireland Philip Oliver became global marketing director earlier this year.

Earlier this year, the Police Service of Northern Ireland signed an initial £34m contract with Fujitsu to consolidate the position of its information and communication technology managed services. The contract is worth a potential £100m over eight years.
