The Number 118 118 is on the hunt to fill the new role of UK chief marketing officer.
The company, which launched in 2003, has never had a chief marketer in a dedicated role. Chief executive and former Superdrug marketer Gerry Murphy has been leading the marketing in the UK.
The CMO will be responsibile for extending the brand’s market leadership and taking it into “the wider information market”.
It is understood the new CMO’s responsibilities could widen to include Europe in the future.
The creation of the new position comes in the same year The Number has consolidated its agency roster. It no longer works with WCRS and strategic planning agency Naked. The Brooklyn Brothers now handles advertising and has developed the recent 118 118 campaign featuring Ghostbusters singer Ray Parker Jnr (pictured).
The Number is reviewing its media agency arrangements. Incumbents OMD and BLM Quantum, the digital arm of Arena BLM, have been shortlisted together with ZenithOptimedia and Mediaedge:cia.
The directory service business recently implemented a global restructure, which made the role of European chief executive, held by Mark Horgan, redundant.
Christine Baumeister has taken on the new global role of chief operating officer for The Number’s parent company kgb. She has been with the company for 12 years and was most recently global chief technology officer at kgb.
Horgan was promoted from UK chief executive to the European role in May 2007, as reported by Marketing Week. He was replaced in the UK by Murphy, who now reports to Baumeister having previously reported to Horgan.
