The life insurance and pensions provider has recruited Gordon Greig, former head of savings and investments at Scottish Widows, to lead its individual life and pensions marketing activity.

Neil Davies, director of marketing for Norwich Union Life’s investments division, will also join Aegon as corporate marketing activity. His responsibilities will include the group personal pensions business.

The pair will report to Andy Marchant, who joined last October as director of marketing for the firm’s life and pensions business.

Aegon announced last October that it was restructuring its marketing department, bringing all life and pensions marketing teams together.

Eleven positions were axed as a result of the restructure and a number of new positions created, including the two filled by Greig and Davies.

The announcement of the restructure came as Aegon signalled its intentions to increase marketing spend by about £10m to compete with rivals including Axa.

The financial services company signed a major sponsorship deal with the Lawn Tennis Association last September that included taking over from Stella Artois as title sponsor of the Queen’s Club tournament and partner of the British Davis Cup team.

The Aegon Championship is currently taking place at Queen’s Club and runs until June 14.

The sponsorship marked the first stage of its long-term plan to increase brand recognition, which included appointing The Leith Agency as its first lead advertising agency last year.
