The Number appoints ZenithOptimedia

The Number 118 118 has appointed ZenithOptimedia to handle its £14m media account following a pitch.

The agency went up against the incumbents OMD and BLM Quantum, the digital arm of Arena BLM, as well as Mediaedge:cia.

The pitch process was handled by Oyster Catchers and 118 118 UK chief executive Gerry Murphy.

The appointment is part of the directory services company’s move to consolidate its agency roster. Earlier this year it moved its advertising account into The Brooklyn Brothers without a pitch.

It had previously worked with WCRS and VCCP and had also used Naked for strategic planning.

The Number is currently recruiting for the new role of chief marketing officer. It has never had a dedicated chief marketer in the UK, with Murphy currently overseeing the responsibilities.

It is understood that the new CMO could see his or her responsibilities widened to include Europe in the near future.

It forms part of a global restructure at the company which recently saw the departure of Mark Horgan, European chief executive, after his role was made redundant.

Murphy now reports directly to the new global chief operating officer for The Number’s parent company, kgb, Christine Baumeister.
