BT pitches £9m digital ad account

BT is pitching its estimated £9m online advertising account.

It is understood that the incumbent, Agency.com, will repitch for the business.

The telecoms company’s other rostered agencies are also expected to be involved in the pitch. Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO currently handles its advertising account, while OgilvyOne handles its below-the-line activity.

Agency.com’s president Enda McCarthy, has just been recruited to head up digital agency rival Publicis Modem UK

Meanwhile, former BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball has joined BT as a non-executive director.  His new role has now thrown a question mark over whether he will still be considered for the top job at ITV to replace executive chairman Michael Grade.

In May, BT announced plans to cut up to 15,000 jobs, 10% of its workforce, this financial year after reporting further losses.

The company reported pre-tax losses of £134m for the year to March 31.

In the same month BT launched a new ad campaign, which for the first time focused on the cheap cost of calling a mobile from a landline, in the latest instalment in its long-running saga starring its Adam and Jane characters (pictured).

The TV and radio executions were created by Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO.
