Manchester United signs Chinese sponsorship

Manchester United has signed a sponsorship deal with Aigo, as the Chinese electronics maker looks to increase recognition of its brand globally.

The five-year agreement will see Aigo become the club’s official “camera, multimedia player and storage device” partner.

The electronics brand will make and distribute co-branded cameras, multimedia players and storage devices products globally. It also gives aigo global rights to use the Manchester United brand in its marketing.

The club’s popularity and commercial appeal in South East Asia has been growing for some time though its summer tours of the region. The club has a commercial partnership with tourism body for the South Korean capital, Hi Seoul, but the Aigo deal is the club’s first in China.

Aigo has been seeking to increase global recognition through sponsorship of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team.

David Gill, chief executive of Manchester United says the deal “is a further demonstration of the global appeal of Manchester United”.

The deal comes the same month as Manchester Union announced AON as shirt sponsors from the start of the 2010/2011 season.
