The Carling, Grolsch and Coors Light owner has announced it is on the hunt for a replacement after Davies announced his intention to leave to set-up a specialist marketing consultancy.

Recent marketing overseen by Davies have included the ‘British Barley’ campaign to persuade people to support British pubs and the extension of Molson’s title sponsorship of football’s Carling Cup.

He has also contributed to the industry response to Government pressure to deal with “irresponsible drinking”, project 10.

Davies has not revealed details of his new venture. He says: “People will say I’m crazy to be leaving at the top of my game to set up a business in one of the worst recessions in living memory, but I wouldn’t be doing it if there wasn’t a good reason,” he says.

Molson recently bought Indian beer brand Cobra out of administration in a joint deal with founder Laran Bilimoria.
