Five launches soaps site

Five has launched Holy Soap, a non-branded TV soaps site, showcasing news and gossip about rival broadcasters’ shows such as Coronation Street and EastEnders.

Neighbours

Holy Soap will also become the official site for the broadcaster’s Australian soaps Neighbours and Home and Away, replacing the the programmes’ standalone sites.

Soap fans will also be able to view full episodes of the shows on the day they’re broadcast and catch up on programmes up to 30 days after they’re first aired.

The site showcases trailers of upcoming shows, cast and character profiles, image galleries and links to full episiodes of soaps on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 sites.

Jonathan Lewis, Five’s head of digital media, said, “We’re not precious. We know that soap fans have voracious appetites and that many of the same people who love Neighbours and Home & Away love the soaps on the other channels too. So it makes sense to create a destination where individuals can share their love of all the big soaps on TV.”

Five’s ad sales house Unanimis will sell the display advertising across the site.

The move comes after the broadcaster partnered with online video platform Brightcove to syndicate ad-supported full episodes on third-party sites.
