Microsoft to offload Razorfish

Microsoft is to sell its digital agency Razorfish, according to reports.

The software giant is understood to have appointed Morgan Stanley to find a buyer for the Seattle-based agency, which it purchased in 2007 as part of its $6bn acquisition of digital marketing and technology services company Aquantive.

The reports suggest French marketing giant Publicis Groupe is a possible bidder.

The news comes just a month after Razorfish’s UK arm rebranded from Avenue A/Razorfish to Razorish to align itself with the rest of the company (nma.co.uk 7 May 2009).

Razorfish UK was co-founded by Chris Perry and Neil Miller in 1998 as DNA before being purchased by the Avenue A network in 2005. Perry and Miller stepped down last month. Razorfish clients include Adidas, Coca-Cola and Kraft.

Microsoft and Morgan Stanley were unavailable for comment.
