Absolute Radio is continuing to expand its mobile offering with the launch of the first radio application for Google Android.

The Absolute Radio iAmp application allows people to listen to Absolute, as well as digital extensions, Classic Rock and Xtreme via their mobile phones using the Android operating system.

The radio station is also looking to sell advertising space with slots within the application for brands to run click-through ads.

The launch of the Android iAmp follows the recent introduction of the LiveAmp live music application and the iPhone iAmp earlier this year. Chris Lawson, the station’s brand director, told Marketing Week that the application is the latest stage in its aim to be the “champions of digital listening”.

He adds the station is also looking at using mobile phones’ GPS functionality, pinpointing live music events and areas of interest at music festivals for listeners.

In May, Absolute hired its first digital marketing manager as it looks to expand its digital portfolio and listening.
