The WWP-owned agency won the account without a pitch and is the first time the airline has worked with a DM agency on a retained basis. However, the company already works with Wunderman Frankfurt in Germany.
The agency will run all Lufthansa’s business-to-consumer and business-to-business communications in the UK.
One key brief the agency will be working on will be the Lufthansa Group frequent flyer programme, Miles & More, which currently has 16 million members.
In the UK, Lufthansa also works with McCann-Erickson and MindShare.
The European Commission this week put off a ruling on Lufthansa’s takeover of Austrian Airlines. It has opened an investigation that could throw cold water over the proposed deal which has been opposed by competing airlines.
Wunderman recently won the DM account for Spanish mobile company Telefonica. It has also extended its relationship with Nokia and now handles a large business-to-business programme for the handset maker.
