Molson Coors commits to reducing packaging

Molson Coors has become the first brewer to fully commit to reducing packaging after signing up to the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

The brewer, which makes Carling and Coors in the UK, has signed up to the anti-waste body’s ‘Courtauld Commitment’, a voluntary agreement between WRAP and companies that aims to reduce packaging and food waste.

Mark Hunter, chief executive of Molson Coors, says the move makes “great commercial sense” as well as being “the right thing to do”.

“The environment is becoming the ever more important to the retailers who are cur customers, and also to UK beer drinkers.

WRAP works with retailers and brands to develop new environmentally friendly packaging across the supply change.

The brewer has worked with WRAP in the past on initiatives such as light weighting beer bottles.

Other signatories to the Courtauld Commitment include Asda, Tesco, Britvic and Cadbury.
