AOL promotes Burns to key sales role

AOL, the global web services company, has promoted European VP and managing director of Bebo, Kate Burns, to head up the parent company’s European sales.

Burns will be responsible for expanding ad sales on AOL’s owned and operated properties in Europe, scaling its third-party network, and overseeing consumer insights.

In her new role, Burns will report directly to the company’s global advertising and strategy president Jeff Levick.

She joined AOL’s social networking site, Bebo, in July last year.

Prior to that she was managing director of Dailymotion UK. She has also worked at Google UK, Ireland and Benelux as director. She joined the company in 2001 as Google’s first employee outside the US.

Further, she has held key sales positions at Altavista, Doubleclick, Ziff Davis and News International.

AOL has advertising operations in nine countries across Europe, including Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
