The initiative is a partnership with EDF Energy to promote the utility supplier’s Green Britain Day.

The newly shaded edition of Metro will feature environment-related editorial content throughout and a green masthead. Green Britain Day aims to inspire the nation to work together in the fight against climate change and intends to be an annula event.

Friday’s edition will also showcase the many green activities taking place around the country for GBD in which people can get involved, including fashion swap shops, bike surgeries and opportunities to find out how to buy more local goods and on shrinking carbon footprints.

Martin Stead, brand director of EDF Energy says: EDF Energy is aiming to lead the energy change to a low-carbon world and is the largest producer of low carbon electricity in the UK. It’s our ambition that Green Britain Day will rally the nation to come together and take actions that will lower Britain’s carbon footprint; we want to give people the inspiration, knowledge and support they need to change today for a lower carbon tomorrow.
