Publisher auctions permanent ad spot on eBay

Specialist publisher Dare Comics is auctioning a permanent “full-page” ad across its publication websites on eBay.

The successful bidder will get access to a “fully interactive” ad on all Dare Comics’ current and future online publications. Titles include The Hunter and Leviathan.

Founder Adam Hamdy says the auction has fulfilled his aim of attracting the attention of advertisers to his titles. “We originally thought of the perpetual advertisement as an innovative way to bring ourselves to the attention of media buyers, and it’s worked.

“We’ve had a number of traditional advertising bookings from companies whose marketing budget does not stretch to a bid on the perpetual advertisement,” he says.

Brands have until Sunday (July 12) to enter final bids before the auction closes. Hamdy claims the initiative is a “world first”.

Dare’s debut title The Hunter currently has 58,000 readers online. About 25% of them are 14-34 year old British men. It launched in 2007.
