Gala set to axe marketing roles

Gala Coral is set to cut several marketing roles as part of a company–wide restructure.

The gambling operator is to centralise marketing for its online and land based divisions.

In a statement, Gala says the cuts are being made in order to “cope with difficult economic conditions and an outlook that remains very challenging”.

According to reports, about 45 marketing jobs are at risk although a spokeswoman for Gala says that affected staff are under consultation until the end of July and no details have been set.

Alongside marketing, the company’s machines, content management, finance and human resources departments will also be restructured.

Gala Coral’s bingo hall division has been hit by the smoking ban followed by the recession in recent years.

In May, it launched a campaign to protest a proposed increase in bingo tax from 15% to 22%, announced in this year’s budget.

Earlier this week, a cross-party attempt by MPs to block the proposed increase was rejected by 283 votes.
