Carphone Warehouse looks at TV opportunities
Carphone Warehouse is considering becoming a television operator following its acquisition of Tiscali UK.

Charles Dunstone, Carphone Warehouse chief executive is reportedly now looking at the possibility of its phone and broadband business, Talk Talk, expanding Tiscali’s TV service.
He says that Talk Talk is also considering participating in Project Canvas, the joint venture IPTV partnership between the BBC, BT and ITV, according to reports.
Last month, the BBC Trust asked the three companies to provide more detailed information on their plans.
Project Canvas will aim to develop an open-standard platform to give viewers subscription-free access to on-demand services and internet content via TV.
The Trust is requesting information on areas including the choice of technical standards, the way in which the BBC will work with industry bodies and issues around the electronic programme guide.
Earlier this month TalkTalk launched a new ad campaign aimed at positioning it as Britain’s “brighter” phone and broadband company.
Carphone Warehouse acquired Tiscali in May for £236m.
The deal, which sees Tiscali come under Carphone Warehouse’s TalkTalk operations, now makes it the UK’s largest residential broadband provider.
