Marketers glum over job prospects

Marketing and creative professionals are more pessimistic about job prospects now than last month, according to a new survey.

According to the Keep Britain Working campaign 43% of workers in the marketing and creative industries were less optimistic about job prospects in the four days to 3 July compared to the month of June, while only 25% said they were more optimistic.

Although the campaign’s ‘Job Optimism Index Score’ remained negative (-18), it has risen 28 points from the -46 registered in May.

Overall, in the four days to 3 July 52% of workers across the UK said they felt positive about their employers’ response to the recession.

However, 48% believe that their employer is actively exploiting the situation by imposing unnecessary pay cuts, reduced hours and redundancies.

Also, in the four days to 3 July 46% of people said they were more pessimistic about job prospects than in May, while 22% said they were more positive.

Keep Britain Working is an independent campaign, endorsed by all main political parties, trade unions, the British Chambers of Commerce, and a number of other employers and organisations.
