Locog appoints Ticketmaster as tier three sponsor

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (Locog) has named Ticketmaster as a sponsor after appointing it to handle ticketing services for London 2012.

Ticketmaster, which will be a tier three sponsor, will work on the ticketing strategy, planning and then the set-up of the ticket sales process as the ‘Official Ticketing Services Provider’ for the Games.

Over nine million tickets will be on sale for both the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2011.

Locog commercial director, Chris Townsend, says the appointment is “crucial” to managing the demand for tickets and “deliver a first class customer service”.

Ticketmaster has previously worked on delivering ticketing for previous Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as the Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cups and the World Twenty20.

Locog is currently seeking a brand and marketing director after separating its marketing and commercial departments. It also recently appointed McCann Erickson to handle the integrated marketing account for 2012.

Tier one sponsors of the games include British Airways, Lloyds Banking Group and EDF Energy. Tier two sponsors include Adecco, Cadbury, Cisco and Deloitte while Ticketmaster joins Airwave, Atkins, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Holiday Inn and McCann Worldgroup among the games’ tier three sponsors.
