Brit Insurance to sponsor English cricket

Brit Insurance is to replace Vodafone as primary sponsor of the English cricket team.

The insurance brand will replace the mobile phone firm from next January.

The four year deal agreed with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also includes sponsorship of the women’s international teams, first reserve side the England Lions and “England Disability Cricket” teams.

The deal comes as England preparse to play Australia in the third Ashes test later this week with England currently one up in the five-match series.

The Brit Insurance logo will feature on all team playing and training apparel. Cricket has been the focus of the insurer’s cricket sponsorship strategy for six years. It is the sponsor of Surrey County Cricket Club and of the team’s home ground, the Brit Insurance Oval.

It is also official “insurance partner” of English crickets’ test match grounds.

Dane Douetil, chief executive of Brit Insurance, says the sponsorship is the next “logical step” in its “brand development strategy”.

Vodafone announced it was ending its 12-year sponsorship of English cricket last December. Beer brand Tetley had previously been primary sponsor.
