Sir Stelios has been publically critical for some time of easyJet’s plans to expand and buy new Airbus planes during a period of global economic upheaval. He has also expressed concerns about the number of ancillary services easy Jet has introduced.

EasyJet plans to issue a trading statement on Wednesday outlining a new business plan and stating that Sir Stelios agrees with the strategy

EasyJet’s chairman , Colin Chandler, stepped down in July and a successor is yet to be named.

The airline is also looking to appoint a commercial director to take over from Saad Hammad.

The airline’s budget rival, Ryanair, today (July 27) posted a net profit for the period April to June of €136.5 million, up from €21 million year-on-year partly helped by careful fuel price management.

However, revenues have fallen and Ryanair has warned that its annual profit will be at the lower end of expectations.
