It is not known at this stage how the company – which launched in 1998 – plans to distribute its products. Its main lines include milk and yoghurt ranges.

It is understood the pitch is being handled directly by the client.

In the UK, Dairy Crest is a leading chilled dairy foods player. Its brands include Dairy Crest Milk, Country Life, Clover, Cathedral City Cheese and the Udderly Butterly range.

Earlier this year it sold its 49% stake in Yoplait Dairy Crest to Yoplait for £63.5m.

Yoplait, the yoghurt maker, is now considering launching new product ranges in the UK aimed at the adult sector which are already popular in France. They include the fromage frais dessert Perle De Lait and its Calin brand.

Arla Foods is also a major player in the UK dairy market. It recently appointed Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO to create a pan-European branding campaign.

Its brands include Cravendale milk, Anchor butter, Lurpak butter and Lactofree, the UK’s first lactose free dairy drink.
