EasyJet signs shirt deal with Luton Town

EasyJet has signed up as the new shirt sponsor for non-league side Luton Town Football Club.

The team’s new strip was revealed in a pre-season friendly with Manchester United tonight (28 July).

The two season deal covers all LTFC teams including the Men’s First and Reserve teams, the Women’s team and all of the Youth & Academy teams.

Luton Town was relegated last season to the Blue Square Premier leaguer. However, easyJet regional general manager UK Paul Simmons says that the airline was not acting out of altruism but that the move was a “hard-headed business decision.”

He adds that Luton is the airline’s spiritual home and important to the network. The sponsorship allows easyJet to reach a large catchment area, many of whom fly from Luton airport.

He pointed out that when there is a deal signed for the TV rights to the Blue Square league the team is likely to receive more coverage than when it languished in the lower divisions of the Football League.

The team’s current shirt sponsor is Carbrini Sportswear.

The low cost airline is due to issue a trading statement tomorrow (29 July) that unveils a new business strategy in regard to aircraft acquisition.
