Four dimensions of data quality

Four dimensions of data quality Your recent Data Analytics Survey (Data Strategy, June), found that nearly four in ten organisations do not have data quality programmes in place. This is not surprising. Many organisations now undertake data quality initiatives, but a much smaller number have a sophisticated approach to data management.

Data governance initiatives and the emergence of specific data quality roles cited in the survey will help to raise standards. To successfully implement a data quality programme, organisations need to consider four key areas: data quality; data security; data compliance; and business processes and policies.

Stakeholders should be appointed and KPIs devised around time or money saved or made. It is also important to demonstrate how the programme links back to the corporate strategy, to justify the business case and gain board-level support. As data is such a fundamental part of business decision making, its accuracy is crucial.
