Greyhound bus brand set for UK launch

Transport company FirstGroup is set to unveil its plans to bring the US Greyhound bus brand to the UK.

Grey Hound bus

Details of the Greyhound UK divisional structure, routes and pricing will be revealed next week (19 August).

It is thought the routes will initially run out of London to Midlands. FirstGroup is primarily a local bus operator, operating 20% of the UK’s bus services, but sees an opportunity to take on the established national operators National Express, easyBus and Stagecoach’s Megabus.

These operators have been pushing their budget cost travel messages as the cost of rail travel rises.

The Scottish transport company bought the iconic US bus brand from Laidlaw International in 2007 for £1.9 billion. FirstGroup US runs the yellow school bus network

The Greyhound bus was famously used for a Wrigley’s Gum TV advertisement.
