Anti-drug driving TV campaign debuts

The Department of Transport is launching a £2.3 million national television campaign to tackle drug driving.

The Think! Drug drive campaign highlights that police can detect drug drivers and that anyone convicted faces the same penalties as those found guilty of drink driving,.

The ads break tonight (17 August) before Coronation Street on ITV1 and run until mid-September. The campaign was created by Leo Burnett. There will be supporting print, outdoor and on-line advertising.

It points out that the police can spot the signs of drug taking in a driver by movements of his or her eyes. The campaign reinforces that anyone convicted of driving while under the influence of drugs will receive a minimum 12 month driving ban, a criminal record and a large fine.

Police forces across the country intend to target drug drivers throughout the August music festival and holiday season.
