He will initially join the handset maker as co-president on 1 September and will work closely with Komiyama and the entire senior management team during the handover period.

Nordberg will be based at the company’s global headquarters in London and will then assume the role of president on 15 October.

In addition, Sir Howard Stringer, chairman, CEO and president, Sony Corporation, and a member of the board of Sony Ericsson, will become chairman of the board of Sony Ericsson as of 15 October.

He will succeed Carl-Henric Svanberg, president and CEO of Ericsson.

In July, the handset maker moved to strengthen its green credentials with the launch of a global “Greenheart” strategy and the planned introduction of two eco-friendly handsets in the UK later this year.

Sony Ericsson was established as a joint venture by Sony and Ericsson in October 2001, with global corporate functions located in London.
