Sky axes least-visited sites from portal

Sky.com is to close a number of its sites, including its dating, careers and teen channels, following a review of its online business.

The move, which Sky has described as “rationalising”, will see the closure of seven sites in total, which it claims account for less than half a percent of total page impressions across the entire portfolio.

The axed sites – money & property, dating, careers, stars, life & style, MyKindaPlace and Monkeyslum – account for 0.25% of inventory on Sky.com.

Sky claims fewer than ten editorial and technical staff are affected, which may lead to a reduction in staff for Sky’s Online Business Unit.

The portal will continue to include Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky Showbiz, Sky Motoring, Sky Travel and Sky1.

A Sky spokesman said the move aimed to refocus Sky’s attention on “what we do best”.

“In the current climate, we’ve decided to focus on the sites, both new and old, which continue to deliver the reach and scale our 7m unique monthly users expect of us. By continuing to invest behind our core online brands, the Sky portal will continue to grow its digital footprint,” he said.
