Mail Online cements lead

The Mail Online has cemented its overall lead among the newspaper websites, while Thesun.co.uk has come in a close second among UK unique users, according to the latest ABCe figures for July.

Associated Newspapers’ Mail Online attracted 29,872,465 during the month, enjoying a slight month-on-month rise of 1.7% and a year-on-year rise of 59.7%. It took the top spot for a second month in a row.

Guardian.co.uk followed with 26,990,072 unique users, falling 6.82% month-on-month. It rose 30.88% year on year and also remains the most visited newspaper website among UK users with 9,928,698.

Telegraph Media Group’s Telegraph.co.uk fell slightly month on month to 26,479,638, while growing 41.25% year on year.

News International, which this month announced the planned closure of its free newspaper title, thelondonpaper, saw its Times Online property fall month on month by 11.04% to 18,873,975. However year on year it rose 15.14%.

Its sister website, Thesun.co.uk rose both month on month and year on year to 25,094,107. It is not far behind Guardian.co.uk in UK unique users, attracting 9,050,537.

Mirror Group Digital enjoyed a 100.98% year on year growth to 10,405, 191, while also growing 10.19% month on month.

Independent News & Media’s Independent.co.uk remained in last place with a 10.31% month on month fall to 8,387,819. However, it did rise 27.3% year on year.
