Sky axes motoring site

Sky is to close its Sky Motoring site as it continues to focus on core traffic-generating sites.

Sky Motoring

The move is part of a review of the company’s Online Business Unit, which saw the closure of seven sites last month: money & property, dating, careers, stars, life & style, MyKindaPlace and Monkeyslum ( 21 August 2009).

It’s understood Sky Motoring had shown sustained growth but had failed to deliver desirable returns.

Sky now plans to focus on its core traffic-generating sites such as, Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky Showbiz, Sky Travel and Sky1.

A spokesman said, “To ensure the ongoing success of our online activities, we’ve taken this decision to enable us to concentrate on our core online competencies. Sky remains committed to investing in online to deliver the best possible experience for our many millions of loyal visitors.” attracted a record 15.9m unique users in August, up 10% on July and 46% year on year, caused by increased interest in the Ashes, the start of the Premiership football season and the World Athletics Championships.
