Sales will initially be limited to North and South America, but the product should arrive in Europe later on in 2010.

Marketing plans for the fragrance are currently “in development.”

Renato Semerari, Coty Beauty president , says: “Beyoncé holds a unique cross-generational and cross-continental appeal that is a perfect fit for a new global Coty fragrance,” said. “With her powerful ability to capture the attention of the world she is a role model for women of all ages.”

The yet-to-be-named scent is scheduled to launch early next year and will “embody the soul of Beyoncé’s persona”.

This week, Beyoncé was at the centre of the ‘Kanye-Gate’ furore at the MTV awards. During country singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for ‘best female video’, rapper Kanye West stormed the stage, took the microphone and ranted that his friend Beyonce had been “robbed” of the award.

On accepting the best music video award later in the evening, Beyoncé called Swift up on stage to allow her to give her acceptance speech uninterrupted.

Earlier this year Coty signed a deal to develop a range of fragrances with singer Gwen Stefani.
